Lake Hartwell Fish Habitat Planting Excursion

When: 9:30 a.m., Saturday, 31 May 2008
Where: Paynes Creek landing  (Off the Tugaloo River, Hart County, GA, between buoys T25 & T26)

We need volunteers to participate in a habitat enhancement effort for Lake Hartwell.  LHA is a partner with the Corps of Engineers, SC and GA DNR, and SC & GA Bass Anglers Sportsman's Society (BASS) Federation in a grant to enhance fish  habitat by planting native grass.  This is the second year of the grant.  Last year plantings were performed on the SC side of the lake.  This year they will be performed on the Georgia side.

Volunteers are asked to show up by 9:30 AM at the Paynes Creek boat ramp.  Bring a shovel, gloves, and a life jacket and plan for a good time.  The work is not difficult, but it's fun and rewarding.

Directions to Paynes Creek Landing:

By boat:  Between buoys T25 and T26, off the Tugalo River, Hart County, GA (Per Corps, boat ramp is closed, there is no courtesy dock, but the campground is open and it's ok to beach boats.)

By car:  From Interstate 85, take GA exit #177, proceed on GA Hwy 77 south for 5 miles. Follow directional signs last 10 miles to campground. From Hartwell, GA, take Hwy 51 north until you reach a 4-way stop, turn left and follow directional signs to park.
