On Sunday, March 22, 2009, I attended and made a presentation for LHA at the Plant Vogtle hearing in Waynesboro, GA. As some of you may know this proceeding is really secondary to the Interveners' Hearing, which was held the previous week in Augusta. More specifically, this hearing was held to let folks like LHA, who had not acted earlier to become interveners, to comment on the proposed expansion of Plant Vogtle. The good news is that at least one of the Interveners is all over the cooling water issue and is apparently pushing NRC to make SNC commit to a dry cooling system. How practical this is I do not know, but at least the cooling water issue is being pursued by people who are in a stronger legal position than we are on the Plant Vogtle Expansion. The presenters fell into five classes. There were two representatives of pro Nuclear groups (CASEnergy and Citizens for Nuclear Technology), Two Chambers of Commerce (Augusta & Burke County)-Pro Expansion , 3 Local Politicians-Pro Expansion, Environmental folks (8 separate speakers-all anti nuclear power) and LHA. The LHA presentation is attached and hard copies were provided to the hearing examiner and transcriber. The NRC indicated that the hearing record would be available on their Web Site, so I will check to see if they got it right and get LHA a complete copy of the hearing record. I will also look for the Interveners' hearing record on NRC's Web Site and get a copy of it. They said it may be a couple of weeks before either is up on their Web Site.
